Fitzlab.com started its life as a very small home run business. With the ideas and inspiration of its owner, John Fitzgerald, Fitzlab.com is now a very successful prolab based in the Channel Islands.
John’s original idea in 1977 was to become a photographer with the ability to print his own work. But such was his high standard, the other local photographers soon started to ask if John could fulfil their printing needs. In those early days, all printing was optical and John was able to master the skills required very quickly.
John has produced prints which have helped photographers gain their fellowships and associateships as well as winning numerous Kodak Gold awards and overall annual Kodak Photographer of the Year on two occasions.
Digital technology arrived and John was one of the first UK labs to convert totally to this new workflow and learn a new skill set. Digital technology has also allowed John to expand his market. Being situated on an island is no longer a barrier. With fast internet connections, clients based anywhere in the UK can receive their work in a very short time. Fitzlab.com has embraced this shrinking world with online facilities not only for photographers to send their work for printing, but also hosts photographers client work for sales fulfilment.
The objective of John and his company Fitzlab.com is to provide a high quality professional print service. With some of his original clients from 1977 still using his lab services, John is confident that he meets those objectives.
